Remember the movie “City Slickers“? Who would have thought the inspiration for my creative outlet would be a Billy Crystal movie? Okay, “When Harry Met Sally” did have some pretty good quotes and life lessons too. That whole thing about how men and women can’t be friends because the sex part always gets in the way? Totally true. Unless one of you is gay. Or you’ve already gotten the sex part out of the way, so to speak, and have moved on.
But I digress. The inspiration for the title of this blog comes from Jack Palance’s character, Curly’s, life lesson to Mitch (played by Billy Crystal):
“Curly: Do you know what the secret of life is?
[holds up one finger]
Curly: This.
Mitch: Your finger?
Curly: One thing. Just one thing. You stick to that and the rest don’t mean shit.
Mitch: But, what is the ‘one thing?’
Curly: [smiles] That’s what *you* have to find out.”
I don’t have my “one thing” figured out yet, but I am finally enjoying the process of finding it. I have a feeling I’m going to enjoy sharing that process too.
By the way, “one thing” you will note about me pretty quickly is that I LOVE [all caps, bold, italics… I’d underline it too if the WordPress editor had that feature] movies. I repeat. I LOVE MOVIES! So, get ready for the occasional gratuitous movie quote or reference interspersed in my everyday musings.
For now, though, I hope life finds you enjoying your “one thing”, if you’re lucky enough to have already found it. If not, I hope you enjoy figuring it out with me along the way.

watched City Slickers this weekend – soooooooo true – love the Curly/Mitch dynamic! Can’t wait to read more ‘musings’! xoxo
Thanks, Jen! ❤ I know, right?! Such a great dynamic!
I love, love, love it!!! of course, a Billy Crysrtal movie can be, and usually is, inspiring!!! I look forward to the next musings!!
Genesis, the beginning, a rebirth. It is the beginning of the Old Testament and speaks to the start of everything. An inspirational start associated with declarations that become reality, decisions that become truths. In Star Trek 2 it is the creation of life, a morphing of cold hard rock into new living organisms, a rebirth of life (okay, it was Vulcan life, but let’s believe it applies to humans as well). In the words of the rock band Genesis, “I will be stronger I will be braver than ever before”. These are definitely the words of a new beginning. So pick whatever Genesis reference you would like, but start fresh, make your own declarations, begin you life with what matters most to you.
